In 2023, a determined high school student applied for some IB Maths Analysis and Approaches tutoring. He stated he wanted to get a 7. We asked Max to share his experience of getting tutoring with Apex Tuition Australia. What subjects did you receive tutoring from Apex Tuition Australia?
I received tutoring for Maths Analysis and Approaches SL in both Year 11 and Year 12. Every so often my tutor would also help me with Chemistry, particularly my IAs.
Why did you apply to get tutoring?
I was always a hard-working and dedicated student. For most of my schooling I would get As in Maths. But I started to notice the content was getting difficult and with the amount of content required in IB, I thought it would be helpful to get a tutor to ensure I remained on top of everything. I was very open with my tutor for the first session that I was aiming to get a 7 in Maths.
What did you do in your tutoring sessions?
Every week, I would save questions that I found difficult and would go through them in detail with my tutor. This worked well because we didn’t waster time on content I already knew. We only focussed on content that was difficult or content that I didn’t understand.
I really appreciated being able to spend more time on these hard problems and having the chance to go a bit deeper.
Did you see any improvements?
"I definitely did. At the start of Year 11, on subject tests, I was averaging a 5 or 6. By the end of Year 12 on any practice exam I did I would always get a 7. Then on the final exam, I was able to also get a 7. My tutor also helped me to get a 7 on my Maths and Chemistry IAs as well."

Were you satisfied with your tutor?
Absolutely. I worked super well with my tutor. He put together a really good plan for me and knew what my goal was from the beginning. He always had confidence in me that I would get a 7. I know that without mt tutor, I would have had to spend a lot more time on Maths and may have not got a 7.
I would 100% recommend working with a tutor for Maths. Even if you are a good student, the amount of content in the IB is so much that the additional help, advice and tricks I learnt from my tutor would incredibly useful.
