Why did you apply to get tutoring?
After Emma moved schools at the end of Year 6, the sudden change in environment left her a bit behind in Maths. Although she was always a bright student, moving into secondary school the new school’s curriculum pace and different teaching methods made it challenging for her to adjust.
It was quite clear to see Emma’s grades slipping. Additionally, I could tell she was feeling discouraged by her results and was starting to get anxious.
What did you do in your tutoring sessions?
In her weekly sessions, the tutor reviewed the content Emma learnt at school. Josh (the tutor) and Emma would go through questions together. When Josh recognised Emma understood the topic, they moved through it quicker. When Emma did not understand, they would spend more time diving deeper.
Josh was super encouraging and made Emma feel super comfortable. Josh did a great job engaging with Emma and making her feel comfortable, especially as she gets a little nervous when she gets thing wrong.
Did you see any improvements?
Absolutely. Over the two years of tutoring, the progress was remarkable. Emma went from getting around 65% on her tests to consistently getting above 90%
By Year 9, she was asked to join the extension Maths stream!

Even though Emma is doing much better in Maths now, she will still keep working with Josh as she really enjoys learning from him.
